At Bánffy Castle, heritage becomes a shared project
Culture is not a static legacy. At the CAST pilot in Bonțida, we are working with local partners to turn Bánffy Castle into a driver of social inclusion for the wider community.
CAST begins from a simple premise: cultural heritage endures when communities hold an active stake in it. Across the Danube region, the project promotes a paradigm shift — from treating culture as a static legacy to embracing it as a transformative force for resilient, thriving communities. In Romania, URBASOFIA contributes to the pilot implementation at Bánffy Castle in Bonțida, where that shift is now being tested on the ground.
Working alongside Iskriva, the project’s lead partner, and the wider consortium, our team is exploring how the castle can act as a driver of social inclusion for the surrounding community — a place where local knowledge, participatory activities and cultural programming reinforce one another. Over the coming months, the lessons from Bonțida will feed into a shared approach to heritage-led inclusion across the Danube region.
